It sounds very nice and the dip switches work too, I just leave them both on as default and I like that sound, no noise no hiss, just a beautiful tone....... Thank you very much for sharing this layout.
Hi I'm totally new and am starting to build my self one RC Booster as above because I need it. In the BOM page it says that there are 22 "trace cuts". Could anyone clarify where these cuts should be made? Thank you for your help. Dom.
Hi,
I have big troubles buying the required transistors for the layout.
Are there any suggestions about replacement parts, as the ones in the BOM are already discontinued.
It is probably working but it is not the original schematic. I have opened mine and there are 3 transistors not 2, 6+1+2=9 diodes not 6, the IC is a JRC4557 and the 2 same transistors are 2SC1815
Analog Yann
This was just the overdrive I was looking for. Had to do a little troubleshooting while trying to stuff it in with another effect. But it didn't take long to catch my own mistakes. This thing sounds awesome! Marsh@ll who???
Je mag zelf kiezen maar ik vind de VTL5C2 wel het beste werken in deze compressor. Het LED-gedeelte zit waar de LED op het bordje is getekend en de LDR dus aan de rechterkant.
Quick translation: the LED-part of the optocoupler is where the LED is drawn on the board, the LDR part is at the right side lf the LED.
I'm trying to trouble shoot mine. I have the boost working, I just can't seem to make the High/Low boost switches to make much of a difference. Just so I have a point of reference while debugging, which section of the circuit has to do with the high boost?
Problem is not fixed finaly..After several minutes of playing I have scratches on the sound and volume drops..I assume this is because of a bad transistor or overheating. I 'm going to update if I find something
Ok, I found the needed components, and buit the booster today.
I chose to put all components on the non-copper-side, so I guess the layout is then just flipped ?
Anyway, I wired it according to this :

The problem I have now is, that when the FX is switched on, I just have static noise. Or - more specific - the 50Hz AC from the power line (EU here)..
Any ideas ??
If you can find an updated schematic, I'll fix the layout for it!
Tracecuts are the red and white squares on the stripboard. Cut the copper traces there by twisting a 3 or 4mm drill with your fingers.

That's ok. In fact: the pot is called "crackle ok" on the ZVex build ;)
why when I move the pot I listen noise?
thanks
I built this stompbox, just finished. It works perfectly and the sound is VERY nice! Thank you so much for sharing.

Heey,
Is D5 de Led/ldr combinatie of de VTL5C2? En dan aan de kant waar de led staat de led en aan de andere kand de weerstand?
Mvg,
Chapzz
My first pedal I built. Works finally! Good overdrive sound if you crank it all the way up.
Built it and it works fine.
The layout specifies the opposite way round...
I did see it. I just didn't know which one was which. Thanks!
Did you check the schematic?
The switches are used to bypass either R7 (high) or C3 (low)...

I don't see where to put the switch and the LED, can you guys help me ?
LOTS of thanks !
Nice, transparent, clean boost. Takes a short time to build and does what it says it does.
Ground is attached to pin 1 and 2 of the pot an then goes to row 5 on the board.
cant really figure it out
How many mA has as a limit? Is that depents also on the diode?
